So I may not be traveling the world at the moment, but living in Florida there are some interesting things going on now and then. Over the past month, Southwest Florida has played host to two major competitions in the Sand Sculpting World Championship, and I just happen to live smack in between this year’s two host beaches.
Earlier this month, Siesta Key (“America’s #1 Beach” as they like to remind us) hosted its second annual Crystal Classic Master Sand Sculpting Competition, which is basically the World Championship competition for doubles. We went on the second day of the five-day competition and many of the sculptures were already shaping up into some amazing things.
Check out a few of them below:
This sculpture won third place. (Check out a photo of the final sculpture on the World Championships facebook page.)
This “Nightmares” sculpture won first place. It later had a small girl huddled in the middle of the horses. (Check out a photo of the final sculpture on the World Championships facebook page.)
This sculpture won second place. (Check out a photo of the final sculpture on the World Championships facebook page.)
We also checked out the World Championship Sand Sculpting Competition (Solos) at Fort Myers Beach. Unfortunately, I forgot my camera and only had my iphone to take pictures with, but here are a few shots of some impressive sculptures:
