Since many people read about and commented on my post about the theft that happened in Jordan, I felt I should give a bit of an update.

It’s funny how things work sometimes. Yesterday I was on the phone with a good friend who I hadn’t talked to since before I’d gone to Jordan. I told her the whole story, and it was the first time I’d talked about the whole thing in quite a while. That same day, Oscar got an e-mail from our Apollo friend Sami in Aqaba (who Oscar had just e-mailed asking if there was any news), stating that he had just gotten a phone call that day from the police with an update. It’s amazing how timing can work out sometimes.

So here’s the news: they caught the fugitive Italian! And with him they found our passports! They have apparently sent them on to our respective embassies in Jordan, so I’ve sent them an e-mail hoping they will send it on to me. Fingers crossed, I would be so happy to have it back with all my memories still stamped into it.

Of course there’s no word yet on the purse or camera, and I’m not going to hold out much hope for their recovery, but perhaps they can get some kind of information on what happened to it out of the Italian. Unfortunately they didn’t give us any word on what’s happened with the Peruvians, if they are still holding them or let them go, though I’m interested to know. I’m happy they caught the man, though, and even happier that we are now 100% proved to be right in our accusations — I’m still amazed at how the whole thing unfolded, that we caught them at all! And now I can sleep fully assured that I didn’t accidentally accuse the wrong people, something I was sure I didn’t but that one can’t help but fear slightly.

I’ll update if anything new happens. Otherwise, I’m back here in the States, getting things in place. Ironically, I was on the phone with the passport office confirming the status of my application (which they’d just received that day) when I heard the news from Oscar. So maybe as soon as I finally click “Purchase” on a new camera online we will get another e-mail saying they found that too!
